When can we set the date?
According to the rules of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, a couple wishing to be married must contact the local parish at least six (6) months before the date of the wedding.  
NOTE: This is the minimum requirement for weddings without impediments.   Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church strongly advises couples contemplating marriage to contact the parish before booking the wedding reception halls and making other arrangements.  Failure to do so may result in you not being able to have your wedding on the desired date.

Can the ceremony be at the venue or does it need to be in the church?
In order for the marriage to be valid for a Baptized Catholic, the wedding must take place in the church.  "Since the marriage establishes the couple in a public state of life in the Church, it is fitting that its celebration be public, in the framework of a liturgical celebration, before the priest (or deacon) , the witnesses and the assembly of the faithful." CCC 1663 

Do I need to be Confirmed in order to be married in the Church?
Althought the sacrament of Confirmation completes ones initiation into the Church and is required for one to serve as a Godparent, it is not required for marriage in the Church. " The parties to a marriage covenant are a baptized man and woman, free to contract marriage, who freely express their consent;" CCC 1625

Do both parties need to be Catholic in order to marry in the Catholic Church?
No, only one party must be a Baptized Catholic. This will be discussed during marriage preparation. See CCC 1633, 1634.
